India, along with the world, is celebrating International Yoga Day today i.e. June 21, 2021 through various activities organised in the run-up to mark this healthy day. It carries the theme of “Yoga for well-being”, much relevant for our times in a world still struggling and fighting with the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
On this day, symbolised for physical and mental health, the family of SKS also participated with the same spirit. Our physical education teacher, Ms. Ashwani Sharma gave an impressive introduction to the students about Yoga Day. She explained to students that this yoga day was recognised by the United Nations’ General assembly on December 11, 2014 and proposed by our P.M. Mr. Narender Modi on 27 September, 2014 as the date 21 June is the longest day of the year in the Northern hemisphere. It was first celebrated on 21 June, 2015 in which 84 nations participated and performed 21 different yoga asanas. This event was recoreded in Guinese Book of World Records.
Ms. Ashwani started with Om Chanting with the students virtually. She performed various asanas and explained the correct way of doing them. Students also showed great interest and enthusiasm and performed various asanas very gracefully. The asanas are good and useful to the students as they boost immunity. All the students were excited and felt energetic.
